Dark matter is a grand protagonist of today's physics and cosmology. In particle physics, its existence is profoundly connected with theories beyond the Standard Model and it leads to New Physics; in cosmology, it is the main driver of the global evolution of the Universe and the formation of cosmological structures; in galaxies and clusters of galaxies, it dominates the dynamics and constitutes up to 95% of the mass (cit. from the Foreword of the Editor).
