The discussion is inspired by the theme of traditional masking rituals which are conserved at the present time in the interaction space between Croatia (Istria and Quarner), Friuli Venezia Giulia and Western Slovenia. These regions in the last century often changed the boundary lines, nevertheless they reflect interesting common cultural elements which created a cultural textu- re that should be investigate over the borders of the mentioned countries.
This approach is supported by the results of the researchers of the former generation as M. Ga- vazzi, N. Kuret and G. Perusini obtanied in this field. Moreover they made an effort on the level of international collaboration in the domain of ethnography within the experience of Alpes Orientales from the fifties until the seventies of the 20th century.
On the basis of the field observation of the phenomenon in the mentioned area, the paper con- tains also some proposals regarding the possibilities of further research.
