Nella prima sezione, espongo i casi che Kripke porta a sostegno della teoria storico-causale e contro la teoria descrittivista. This article provides an overview of the debate around the experimental work on the reference of proper names. In the first section, I show the cases Kripke draws upon as support in favor of the causal-historical theory and against the descriptivist theory. In the second section, I present the experiment originating this debate (Machery et al., 2004). The authors maintain that referential intuitions vary both amongst groups of subjects belonging to different cultures and amongst subjects belonging to the same culture. In the third and fourth sections, I describe the debate that has originated from the criticisms against the internal structure of the experiment and against the theoretic assumptions it is based upon. In the last section, I outline some perspectives for future experimental work on theory of reference.
