L'accezione fortemente negativa che connota l'ambiguo termine superstitio adoperato
da Sidonio Apollinare (epist. 8, 6) per disegnare il rito che i Sassoni compiono allorquando
devono salpare non è riconducibile solo alla situazione storico-culturale in cui
si muove il nostro, ma è la testimonianza di un riuso lucreziano rielaborato in maniera
originale in una dimensione cristiana. The ambiguous term superstitio, with which Sidonius Apollinaris describes in letter 8,6
the ritual performed by the Saxons before raising anchor, has a strongly negative meaning: this is not only ascribable to the historical and cultural context in which the author lives, but
it also represents an original re-elaboration in a Christian dimension of Lucretius’ words.
