Abstract
The Greek word προνοια has been originally not linked to religion anyway, Plato first used this noun to signify the divine planning of the world in order to achieve a good goals. Afterwards, the Middleplatonists and the Stoics outlined in their two different ways the doctrine of providence and its relation with the experience of evil. The philosophical concept of providence and the word itself is nowhere attested either in Old or New Testament.
