The goal of this article is, mainly, to analyze the non-periphrastic gerund of Spanish in two works by Benito Pérez Galdós: La desheredada and Realidad. The gerund begins with its own definition, its adjetival and adverbial character, the contexts where it occurs frequently and the way that are conceived both by the author from Canary Islands and the current speaking people. In the case of Realidad, has been taken into consideration a translation into Italian and, from a contrastive perspective, it has been observed, in the text rendered text into Italian, the periphrastic gerund (and non-periphrastic) has different usages with regard to Spanish.
