In base a un’analisi dettagliata di Contro Apione I 218 si può affermare (a) che il Filone lì
menzionato è effettivamente Filone il poeta epico, e non un omonimo storico, (b) che questo
Filone aveva molto probabilmente un’origine alessandrina e non palestinese, (c) che gli errori
e i fraintendimenti commessi da Giuseppe in quel passo sono meno numerosi e meno gravi di
quanto usualmente si crede. A detailed analysis of Against Apion I 218 seems to show that the Philo mentioned there is in fact
Philo the epic poet rather than an unknown historian; that Philo the poet was, in all likelihood, an
Alexandrian Jew and not a Palestinian one; and that Josephus’ mistakes and misunderstandings in this
passage are both less abundant and less blatant than scholars used to think.
