The phenomenon of industrial abandonment is analysed, considering disused buildings and production sites as being an element of the resilience of a territory. This approach allows the interpretation of the phenomenon in terms of both quality and quantity, and promotes the recognition of buildings and sites for which a new value must be found in accordance with current territorial policies.
The process involves the gathering of data relating to a municipal territory chosen as a case study, and its subsequent elaboration through the use of GIS software. The results demonstrate how the proposed method can provide immediate feedback on the spread and extension of the phenomenon.
