Sign language interpreters at the dawn of the 21st century are facing new challenges and are having to adjust to a wide variety of working environments including the conference setting and having to adapt their skills accordingly . Conferences today cover a wide variety of subjects of direct interest to the Deaf such as education, social aspects of deafness, medical advances, linguistic aspects of sign language and interpretation issues, as well as an enormous range of subjects of interest to the general hearing public.
