This article, focused on Federico Zuccari’s correspondence, sheds new light on the connections between
the painter and Francesco Maria II della Rovere and follows a previous paper on six missives to Sebastiano
Caccini (in «Predella», 55, 2024, pp. 85-108). Particularly, through the analysis of four letters Federico wrote
to the Duke between 1597 and 1606, the article highlights aspects of the relationship between the painter
and his son Ottaviano. Furthermore, it offers an overview of the figure of Ottaviano, of both his various
interests and literary production, considering works such as L’idea de’ concetti politici, morali et christiani
di diversi celebri auttori (1628) and Decisiones civiles et criminales almae Rotae Lucensis (1632).
