Abstract
A series of trimaran configurations has been tested at DINMA: the main hull and the outriggers were all Wigley hulls, the central one being two times longer than the outriggers. The position of these has been varied in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. Measures of total resistance, trim and sinkage have been taken. For selected configurations numerical predictions of wave resistance, trim and sinkage have been made with a Rankine source panel code developed at DINMA. The results of this investigation demonstrates that there is a substantial saving in power with a proper choice of the outriggers position, and confirm also that numerical predictions can be helpful in the design process.
