During 1938-1939, a large number of conversions of Jews to Catholicism took place in Trieste. It was not only Italian Jews who converted, but also many foreign Jewish refugees in transit through the Adriatic port on their way to the Americas. The research has been carried on the basis of the documentation conserved at the Archiepiscopal Curia of Trieste, and has made it possible to reconstruct many individual paths, thus enabling the reconstruction of the personal motivations for conversion; the reactions of the local Jewish community and those of the local Church.
Durante il 1938-1939 si registrò a Trieste un grande numero di conversioni di ebrei al cattolicesimo. A convertirsi non furono soltanto gli ebrei italiani, ma molti ebrei stranieri in transito per il porto adriatico e diretti verso le Americhe. La ricerca sulla base della documentazione conservata presso la Curia Arcivescovile di Trieste, ha permesso di ricostruire molti percorsi individuali, consentendo così di ricostruire le motivazioni personali della conversione; le reazioni della locale Comunità ebraica e quelle della Chiesa locale.
