Study of earthquake source characteristics is essential in seismology. Seismic moment (M0) is one of the most important seismic source related parameters. This study aimed to find an empirical relation between S-wave peak displacement and seismic moment specific for Northeastern Italy. The parameters of this relation represent attenuation characteristics of the region. In order to achieve the goal, a ω2 Brune source [1] model was fitted to the low-frequency portion of the seismic source spectrum and an overdetermined linear system of equations solved by employing Generalized Inversion Technique (GIT).
