This paper documents the preservation work on the earthen fortifications at the archaeological site of Uch Kulakh, at the oasis of Bukhara (Uzbekistan), an important caravan center along the Silk Road. The artifacts of the complex, brought to light by excavations, present degradation caused primarily by atmospheric agents. The paper presents the emergency preservation strategy adopted for this site and the results obtained thus far. Coordinated by prof. Mauro Bertagnin, the procedures were carried out in accordance with the criteria of reversibility and technological and material compatibility with the existing structures to be preserved, and comply with the established principles of the architectural preservation of earthen structures.
