Da quando le app hanno iniziato ad esser distribuite nel 2008, sia il loro sviluppo che il loro utilizzo sono costantemente cresciuti negli anni. Ormai sono disponibili app per qualsiasi argomento: dalla consultazione di quotidiani allo shopping, dal fitness alla musica. Molte di queste sono legate alla cartografia o più semplicemente sfruttano il sistema GPS (Global Positioning System) del dispositivo utilizzato per indicare la posizione dell’utente e potergli quindi fornire le informazioni più interessanti in base all’area in cui si trova. Si prenderà qui ad esempio la app GisLab – UniTS, sviluppata dal Laboratorio GIS dell’Università degli Studi di Trieste, la quale si basa proprio sulle potenzialità offerte da questo tipo di programmi, anche per promuovere forme di turismo ‘alternativo’ (turismo sostenibile, turismo rurale, ecc.). Apps’ development and use has constantly grown over the years, since they first began appering in 2008. Nowadays there’s an app for any purpose: from reading newspapers to shopping, from fitness to music. Many of these are cartography’s related or they simply use the GPS system (Global Positioning System) to indicate the user’s position and give him/her the most suitable information according to the area in which he/she is. Here, we are going to take into consideration the GisLab – UniTS app, developed by Laboratorio GIS of the University of Trieste, which uses some of the possibilities offered by this kind of computer program, also to promove an ‘alternative’ tourism.
