Questo studio intende mostrare le diverse modalità di utilizzo dei testi epicurei nella letteratura e, in particolare, nei commentari dell’età imperiale e della tarda antichità. Le opere della prima generazione di filosofi epicurei diventano gradualmente meno conosciute e i riferimenti a esse sono meno frequenti nei secoli successivi. I ritrovamenti papiracei sembrano supportare questo dato. Le testimonianze (manoscritti, iscrizioni) che presentano testi epicurei sono concentrate soprattutto tra I e III sec. d.C. This paper intends to show the several ways in which Epicurean texts can be used in the literature and commentaries from the Imperial Era and Late Antiquity. The works of the first generation of Epicurean philosophers gradually become less common and references to them appear less and less frequently in the following centuries. Even papyrus finds seem to support this trend. The evidence from the excavations (manuscripts, inscriptions) that can be applied to Epicureanism are concentrated mainly between the first and third century CE.
