Currently, the increasing interest on smart cities is strongly related to the evolution of any sector that interface them with urban environment. This relation is even more strong when taking into the account the necessary reduction in pollutant emissions. Among the different sectors, also the marine one deserves a special attention when conceiving the smart city paradigm. This is true especially if it carries out a passenger transport service. In the context of global emissions reduction, the present paper discusses about the design of a small passenger transport vessel with two hybrid-electric configurations. In particular, the work is aimed at designing the onboard storage for the two propulsion configurations. Additional considerations will be offered in the definition of electrical charging station, whose installation must be attained without impairing the already existing land-based infrastructure.
