Abstract
This Ph.D. thesis investigates and develops a new modeling framework based on lumped parameter models and measured data for the simulation and analysis of the vibration response of a machine assembled from different scale components. Indeed, the tool is foreseen for systems whose dynamic response can be described either with lumped parameter models or distributed models. Moreover, it allows the analysis of uncertainties at the connection points due to the variabilities that arise during production as well as during real-time operations of the machine. Finally, it also takes into account nonlinear effects such as nonlinear stiffening or nonlinear friction that may arise in some components. This thesis considers a special application, that is the vibrations of the drum-suspension-housing assembly of a professional washing machine. The aim of this thesis is to develop a digital twin model for the vibration response of the drum-suspension-housing assembly of a professional washing machine, which can be used not only as a mere simulation and design aid but as a useful monitoring and control tool throughout the washing machine lifecycle. The specific objectives of this thesis can be summarised in the following points: 1. The development of a Digital twin model for the plane vibration of the drum assembly of a professional washing machine 2. The design and development of virtual sensors for cross-plane displacements, the force transmitted to the ground, and the centrifugal force of a professional washing machine. 3. The development of a methodology for non-contact optical vibration measurements of the drum assembly with single and multiple cameras.
