Il contributo passa in rassegna i risultati di maggiore rilievo acquisiti grazie ai lavori raccolti nel volume e mette in evidenza due principali direzioni per le future ricerche nell’ambito delle lingue e scritture dell’Egeo pregreco.
Innanzi tutto l’analisi della documentazione sfragistica del geroglifico cretese, unitamente alle attestazioni più arcaiche della lineare A e alla formula di Archanes, apre prospettive di lavoro interessanti per il rapporto fra scrittura glottografica e scrittura semasiografica e per la comprensione del fenomeno scrittorio in sé.
D’altra parte la documentazione scritta non lascia trasparire fenomeni correlabili in maniera incontrovertibile con la pluralità linguistica delle due isole di cui parla la tradizione letteraria, a cominciare dal noto passo omerico sul plurilinguismo cretese; in questa direzione non rimane che auspicare un incremento sia qualitativo sia quantitativo della documentazione scritta tale da permettere decisivi progressi nella descrizione delle lingue dell’Egeo pregreco. The paper reviews the major findings acquired through the work collected in the volume and highlights two main directions for future research in the field of Pre-Greek Aegean languages and scripts.
First, the analysis of the sphragistic documentation of Cretan Hieroglyphic, together with the more archaic attestations of Linear A and the Archanes formula, opens up interesting perspectives for the relationship between glottographic and semasiographic writing and for the understanding of the writing phenomenon itself.
On the other hand, the written documentation does not reveal phenomena that can be correlated incontrovertibly with the linguistic variety of the two islands mentioned in the literary tradition, beginning with the well-known Homeric passage on Cretan multilingualism; in this direction, it only remains to hope for an increase in both qualitative and quantitative written documentation such that decisive progress can be made in the description of the languages of the Pre-Greek Aegean.
