Inspired by European policies on polycentrism and their subsumption into Adria Po Valley agreement, signed by the regions of Northern Italy, the text deals with issues of settlement patterns padano-venetian area and the hypothesis of a linear metropolitan system from Turin to Trieste, then to focus attention on trends in local planning and possible discrepancies in their policies for large areas because of lack of roads and design of the urban structure. The questions of the formation of new nodes around the city and considerations on the difficulties in the linear shape of a megalopolis along Po Valley, conclude the text.
