Biagio Marin (1891-1985) is one of the twentieth century greatest dialect poets in Italy. The dialect employed by the poet to celebrate life, death, the surrounding nature and his own innermost feelings is an ancient Venetian dialect, the “gravisano”. Marin’s theme lyrics are love and feminine charm, but also the profound loneliness of the twentieth century man. The poet publicly announced that he had left the Catholic Church, but in spite of this his “Canzoniere” contains also lyrics celebrating God and his immensity. Marin’s poems portraying the most impressive and charming places of his beloved homeland, Grado island, are here presented.
