During the lockdown period, to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, Italian teachers at all level were forced to carry out a rapid transition from face-to-face teaching to distance learning. In that context, we administered a short semi-structured questionnaire to 175 primary school teachers with the aim of investigating their main difficulties in conducting distance learning in the first months of school closure. The qualitative analysis of teachers’ answers revealed that they have experienced a critical situation characterized by lack of devices training needs and fears about the effectiveness of distance learning to meet the objectives of primary education.
