Recently the total wind power capacity had a fast growth in Italy: in the 1995 was 19 MW and now it’s estimated at 6.890 MW. Due to the better wind conditions, mainly wind farms are concentrated in the South Italy. This rapid growth cause several disputes, linked to the technical problems (like, for example, real productivity), but also to the environmental effects of the wind farms (for example, landscape impact or increase in the mortality of birds). In this paper we described the wind conditions and the spread of the wind farms in Italy between 1999 and 2011. Besides, we shortly analyzed some landscape impacts, mentioning several significant cases.
