Abstract
The authors study the canonical form of a generalised formulation of Einstein's theory of gravity which exhibits invariance under local GL(4) transformations. The algebra of constraints is explicitly derived. The metric formulation and the vierbein formulation are recovered by fixing the GL(4) gauge.
