Trieste può essere considerata fin dal tardo Ottocento, un “laboratorio
di razzismo”, antislavo e antisemita.
Questo catalogo raccoglie i materiali esposti nella mostra <i>«Basta, qui siamo finiti!» 1938: le leggi razziste a Trieste</i> e intende ricostruire, attraverso molta documentazione
ancora inedita, la prassi persecutoria del razzismo
fascista antisemita e le reazioni dei singoli ebrei e della società
maggioritaria nei mesi convulsi tra la primavera del 1938 e i primi
mesi del 1939. Fu il periodo in cui il regime fascista decise
di iniziare a perseguitare i diritti dei cittadini italiani di religione
e origine ebraica, e lo fece in modo particolarmente rigoroso a
Trieste, come se il fascismo locale volesse smentire una volta
per tutte la fama di città più «giudaizzata» del Regno, secondo le
parole d’ordine della propaganda antisemita nazionale. From the late 19<sup>th</sup> century, Trieste can be considered a “laboratory of racism”, of both an anti-Slav and anti-Semitic kind. This catalog contains the materials of the exhibition <i> " That’s it, we’re done here!" 1938: the racist laws in Trieste </i> aims to reconstruct, using a great deal of in¬edited documentation, the practices of persecution adopted by the anti-Semitic racism, and the reactions of individual Jews and the majority society during the turbulent months from Spring 1938 to early 1939.
This was the period during which the Fascist regime decided to begin persecuting the rights of Italian citizens of Jewish origins and faith, implementing this persecution par-ticularly rigorously in Trieste, as if the local Fascists wished to deny one and for all the city’s fame as the most “Judaized” city in the Kingdom, according to the slogans of the national anti- Semitic propaganda.
