In the Rio +20 summit was agreed that transportation and mobility are key elements for getting sustainable development. This development has a wide range of alternatives and strategies, but it is necessary to identify feasible technological alternatives that generate environmental benefits and social equity integrating remote communities into prosperous cities in the region or river ports for facilitating the marketing of products or transportation of tourists. In our country there is an urgent need to integrate communities to social services, to business opportunities and development. Current levels of development are below of any expectations and the principles and research of naval engineering play a key role in the application of knowledge to adapt to the real needs of communities. This paper proposes alternative and strategies that contribute to the sustainable development of river communities and complement other government projects. En la cumbre de Río +20 se acordó que el transporte y la movilidad son elementos centrales en la búsqueda del desarrollo sostenible. Este desarrollo sostenible tiene muchas aristas y un amplio espectro de alternativas y estrategias, pero es necesario identificar alternativas tecnológicas factibles, que generen ventajas ambientales y equidad social, que permitan integrar comunidades remotas hacia otras comunidades o ciudades más prósperas de la región, hacia puertos que faciliten la comercialización de productos o el transporte de turistas. En nuestro país hay una urgente necesidad de integrar comunidades ribereñas a los servicios sociales, a las oportunidades comerciales y el desarrollo. Los actuales niveles de desarrollo están muy por debajo de cualquier expectativa y los principios e investigaciones de la ingeniería naval tienen un rol fundamental en el uso del conocimiento para adaptarlo a las necesidades reales de las comunidades. El presente artículo propone alternativas y estrategias que coadyuven al desarrollo sostenible de las comunidades ribereñas y complementen otros proyectos gubernamentales.
