The Good Life explored in the famous book of the same name by architect Iñaki Ábalos can be compared to the “good life” questioned by philosopher Judith Butler. Her question of who has a right to a good life is comparable to the question of who belongs to the “together” propagated by the New European
Bauhaus.
According to Butler, a “good life” cannot be separated from “togetherness”, the relationship with others, but also from resistance to a bad life. Resistance consists
of opposing the differential distribution of the value of life and precariousness, trying to create conditions in which human interdependence and vulnerability become livable. The paper addresses two conditions under which vulnerability and interdependence become unbearable, depending on the role that architecture also assigns to bodies and determines their right to be present in public and private spaces. In this respect, “together” can be a tool of critical resistance for architecture.
