Abstract
If ‘Actual Monuments’ can be considered Banham’s last public testament (though not intended as such), ‘The Wall’ – and in particular its closing lines – stands out as his private, intimate one. The text has been written by the British critic while stuck in a room for months as a consequence of treatment for cancer. Despite his precarious health, Banham continued to be a sharp writer.
