The cultural configuration at the basis of the Schillerian anthropology is founded on an image of man as the expression of an indivisible totality that results from the combination of his organic and spiritual components. In the essay, the dimension of the gesture is posed in relation to the biological nature of man, while the gaze is connected to the intellective faculties. The continuity between the two constellations is here examined in its performative and poetic implications in "Don Karlos", "Der Geisterseher", and in "Die Jungfrau von Orleans".
