The arrival of foreign workers had significant impact on the demography and the economy in
Bologna between the 14th and 15th centuries. Based on a large collection of archival documents,
this paper analyses the management of immigration carried out by the municipality and living
conditions of groups of forenses in the urban context, following the path traced by the study of
workplaces, housing and sociality
