The crucial moments in the development of Negri’s concept of production are examined herein. The description of its genesis is first presented by reconstructing the «passage of production» from Fordism to post-Fordism. The importance of the French structuralism is then discussed to definitively move the concept of «production» from the dialectical field to the constituent ontology. Finally, the fundamental features of the biopolitical mode of production are introduced to highlight the essential differences with the industrial production.
