The reinterpretation of a latin inscription of Aquileia, already published, makes it possible to identify a new flamen Augusti provinciae Narbonensis. The presence of this high provincial priest in the Adriatic port offers the opportunity to evaluate the relationships between the city of Aquileia and the cities of southern Gaul in a frame- work of early connections, certainly favoured by the same geographical position, with a strong emporial orientation in relation to the hinterland, of Aquileia (a Latin colony from 181 BC) and of some Gallic centres, first and fore- most Narbo Martius (a Roman colony from 118 BC).
