USHUAIA, LA PUERTA DE ENTRADA A LA ANTÁRTIDA (LA ROTTA TURISTICA PER L’ANTARTIDE) USHUAIA, THE GATEWAY TO ANTARCTICA (THE TOURISTIC ROUTE TO ANTARCTICA)

Fondata attorno a un nucleo di iniziativa missionaria costituitosi nella Terra del Fuoco nel 1869, Ushuaia diviene nei successivi anni ’80 una colonia penale su delibera del governo argentino. Nel corso del Novecento l’isolamento geografico troverà una compensazione crescente nello sviluppo delle infrastrutture portuali tese a sostenere i collegamenti di indirizzo commerciale-turistico, scientifico e strategico con il vicino “continente bianco”. In the twentieth century the geographic isolation was balanced by a rising development of the harbour infrastructures that have been set running for the touristic, scientific and strategic link with the near “white continent”.
