he writing concerns the Ballroom which was built inside theVenetian Royal Palace between 1834 and 1835. The architectural complex was commissioned by the Napoleonic government (1807-1814) but above all its decorative program continued in different phases even during the subsequent Austrian. The main artists who carried out the decoration of the vast hall were the mature Giuseppe Borsato1770-1849) for the parts of Ornato and the younger Odorico Politi (1785-1846) that painted the big allegory in the center of the ceiling, both teachers at Academy of Fine Arts of Venice.
A series of documents traced at the local State Ar- chives, together with preparatory drawings and prints, allow us to reconstruct the genesis, the pay- ments and subsequent success of the largest and most sumptuous room in the palace, now incorporated within the Correr Museum.
Furthermore, one of these documents made it possible to dentify the meaning of all the allegorical figures painted by Politi who were to allude to the good governance of Emperor Francis I of Austria.
