Prima degli ambasciatori furono i mercanti a raccogliere le informazioni e, grazie alla loro fittissima rete di
relazioni, farle rimbalzare da Oriente a Occidente. I due brevi frammenti di cronaca veneziana presentano varie
curiosità e lasciano intendere di essere stati ampiamente scritti a partire dal contenuto di dispacci e lettere.
Before the ambassadors, it was the merchants who gathered information and, thanks to their dense network of
relations, bounced it from East to West. The two short fragments of Venetian chronicles present various
curiosities and suggest that they were largely written from the contents of dispatches and letters.
