Stress has been the object of numerous studies on conference interpreting: ability to cope with stress was included among the vital factors for the selection of an interpreter. Stress endurance together with speed stress were considered crucial aspects of the interpreter’s task and included among the features to be taken into account during aptitude tests. In this contribution on overview is given of stress related studies in conference interpreting: from the impact on the interpreter of environmental factors such as booth conditions to surveys on occupational stress among interpreters.
