This paper will basically trace the latest developments of the Trieste strand of the National LINGUATEL research project concerning multimodal text analysis, translation for subtitling and the identification of the phenomenon of filmese. The results obtained will also show the extreme relevance of the developments taking place simultaneously in Pavia regarding the creation of the relational database system MCA, described by Anthony Baldry elsewhere in this volume.
