The contribution examines the Friulian-speaking authors of Gorizia with the aim of recognizing, on the basis of certain specific criteria, the elements of relationship with contemporary society. In writers from the 16th to the 18th century the concise review reveals numerous aspects that are useful for reconstructing many cultural and social aspects of the different eras; a particular importance is covered by Gio. Maria Marusig, who deals with a tragic event of enormous social significance which is the plague. The 19th-century literature reflects not only social but also political issues, while the almanacs and lunars of Gorizia are marked by a profound educational concern. There are also many ideas from the literature of the 20th century, but contemporary literature also denotes a solid capacity for social analysis even when it is configured as an invented narrative.
