A new revised earthquake catalogue for the Italian territory, named CCI1996, is described here; it
consists of an updated and corrected version of the PFG catalogue (Postpischl, 1985). The
upgrading is performed with the ING bulletins, while the revision is based on the ISC (1976-1990)
bulletins and on the information contained in the CFT catalogue ("Catalogo dei Forti Terremoti in
Italia dal 461 a. C. al 1980"; Boschi et al., 1995).
The essential information about the structure of the new catalogue and a description of the
correction criteria applied are given together with the complete list of the events.
