The paper examines the unique concrete experience of destitution of the Head of State through a referendum, activated in Romania in 2007. The analysis of the mechanism to remove the President enlights some procedural requirements, such as the consultative function of the Constitutional Court. The consistent variations of this type of referendum respect the ideal model make possible to do some considerations on the reception and adaptation of this institute in Romania.
