The paper analyses the simultaneous interpretation from French into Italian of the presidential debate between Nicolas Sarkozy and Ségolène Royal held on 2 Mai 2007 for the Italian broadcast SkyTG24. The analysis focuses on ethos and politeness: to what extent have interpreters reproduced in their discourse the ethos and the politeness strategies adopted by the two opponents?
