The paper aims to see whether and how there is a link between the social movements inspired to the philosophy of buen vivir and the practices of farming, especially those falling under the label of agroecology. The connection exists and happens at three levels: the idea of Pachamama that gives a central place to land cultivation, the emphasis on communitarian rights and land ownership, that interrupts the traditional labour-capital relationships imposed in the countryside, and the respectful of Nature that invites for softer cultivation methods. The last point remains the most eluded, not only in Latin America, where the buen vivir philosophy has borne, but also in Western countries, in which the agriculture is even more industrialized. Because of this elusion, the metaphor of game is proposed for a new interpretation of agroecology and, more generally, of relationship between environment and human action.
