Biotechnolgy and Industry. The article studies the industriai development of biotechnologies as a consequence of the characteristics of the research sector and the dynamics ofGMO market. The sector suggests a series of analyses for the following reasons: (i) the chain co-ordination is necessary for integrating the resulti ofthe GMO research in laboratories for creating products useful in trade in rather short periods oftìme, (ii) the major groups of today, the Foundation Seed (FS), already have begun to develop a GMO seed market next to the norma! seed one, often expanding in countries where GMO norms are less restrictive. To develop a new product requires a huge capital investment possible throughout the implementation of financial strategies with the intervention of the FS. The model structure - management - performance is examined with the C4 concentration index the value of which is around 50% of proceeds, that permits to implement oligopolistic management by market segmentation. Maintaining a concentrated structure is possible with the growth and consolidation of the agro-biotechnological enterprises by means of a series of financial operations to maintain the control of the assets by the world leader groups.
