L’articolo fornisce traduzione integrale e analisi sistematica della dictio 12, altrimenti nota come <i>Laus
litterarum</i>, composta da Ennodio (V-VI secolo) e dedicata a Aratore (probabilmente) nel 508. Nello studio si
individuano i modelli letterari dell’epigramma prefatorio (Avieno, Properzio e Macrobio). Per la parte in
prosa si dimostra come Ennodio abbia proceduto a una bipartizione del testo in cui la prima sezione contiene
una riflessione sull’obbligo morale di ringraziare la Retorica per il dono dell’<i>eloquentia</i>; la seconda, ricca di
elementi tipici dell’inno, è dedicata all’encomio effettivo, sistematizzando il repertorio di metafore spesso
associate da Ennodio alla composizione letteraria e agli studi liberali. The article supplies complete translation and systematic analysis of the diction 12, differently known as <i>Laus
Litterarum</i>, composed by Ennodius (Vth-VIth century) and dedicated to Arator (probably) in 508. In the essay
literary models of the prefatory epigram (Avienus, Propertius, and Macrobius) are individuated. About the
prosaic part it is shown how Ennodius proceeds with a textual bipartition in which the former part contains a
reflection about the moral obligation to thank Retorica for the gift of the <i>eloquentia</i> and the latter, full of
element typical of hymn, is dedicated to the actual encomium, systematizing the repertoire of metaphors
frequently associated by the author to literary composition and studia liberalia.
