The paper focuses on the measures created and maintained in the Roman period to control the circulation of catoicic land, the most important category of private land in that period. In Particular, the paper focuses on P.Iand. VII 137, a gnomôn: i.e, list of fees and taxes imposed on the conveyance of the land, where the rates change in accordance with the gender of the parties, the question if they are already holders of a catoicic land or not, and on the type of land in question.
