TESTIMONIANZE CARTOGRAFICHE SULLA DIVERSA ORIGINE DEGLI ABITANTI: IL CASO DEI “VILLAGGI DOPPI” UBICATI A SUD DEL CONFINE DELLA VALACCHIA NEI MONTI FA˘ GA˘ RAS¸ -IEZER (ROMANIA) CARTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCES ABOUT THE SETTLERS’ DIFFERENT ORIGIN: THE CASE OF “DOUBLED VILLAGES” LOCATED TO THE SOUTH OF VALLACHIAN BORDER IN THE FA˘ GA˘ RAS¸ -IEZER MOUNTAINS (ROMANIA)

Il lavoro, svolto in ambiente GIS Open Source (Quantum GIS), si propone di evidenziare il ruolo delle carte storiche per testimoniare e conoscere la storia del popolamento (l’origine diversa degli abitanti, i flussi di popolazione ecc.). Nella parte settentrionale della Valacchia si sono verificati sin dal Quattrocento fenomeni di “infiltrazione” di abitanti romeni che vivevano al nord del confine con la Transilvania (“ungureni”), nei periodi in cui questa provincia storica era annessa ad altre dominazioni. A sud del confine, tali abitanti hanno fondato nuovi insediamenti nella cui denominazione è stato aggiunto il termine “Ungureni”, mentre per i vecchi insediamenti quello di “Pa˘mânteni” (autoctoni, abitanti della terra). Dal Settecento le carte testimoniano tramite la toponomastica l’esistenza dei “villaggi doppi” o gemelli (“Pa˘mânteni” – “Ungureni”), di cui molti hanno perso nel tempo il nome iniziale, ricco di significato. This paper is elaborated in the GIS Open Source environment (Quantum GIS), and aims to demonstrate the position of historical maps as a witness, in order to gather much information about the history of population (the settlers’ different origin, population flows etc.). In the northern Vallachia, Romanian settlers living north to the Transsylvanian border have been passing it since the 15th century, during the period when this historical province was owned by other great powers. South to the border, they have established new settlements to which the name of „Ungureni” was added, while the older settlements were given the name of „Pa˘mânteni” (natives, settlers of this ground). Since the 18th century, maps certify by the names the existence of the doubled or twin villages („Pa˘mânteni” – „Ungureni”). Many of them have lost in time the initial name, rich in significance.
