Abstract
The development of new teaching models for translators involves an indepth reflection on the complexity of translation competence (KIRALY 2000; HURTADO ALBIR 2001; DANCETTE et al. 2007; FORTEA [ed.] 2018). Students should not only increase their language skills throughout their university studies but also strengthen their extra-linguistic skills, which may be improved through a series of specific learning activities. This paper aims to illustrate two exercises related to cultural markers in order to make the student aware of the importance of these markers in the translational process. The texts chosen for this activity come from the field of audiovisual translation and may also be employed to raise students’awareness of temporal and spatial factors in the translated text. Time and space are, in fact, two variables that are not only related to cultural studies but also have an impact on the communicative process.
