Abstract
This article introduces the figure of Giovanni Torelli, an Italian mathematician, in his son Lucio’s memories. The figure of the mathematician and the passionate teacher comes to light, but above all Giovanni's desire and ability to establish a relationship with the 'other', be it colleague or student. This reciprocal relationship with the other has become the basis for his teaching style and for an interdisciplinary research work. Viene qui ricordato, da parte del figlio Lucio, Giovanni Torelli, matematico italiano morto trent’anni fa. Viene in luce la figura del matematico e del docente appassionato, ma soprattutto il desiderio e la capacità di Giovanni di entrare in relazione con l’altro, collega o studente che fosse. Questa reciprocità di relazione con l’altro è diventata la base per il suo stile di insegnamento e per un lavoro di ricerca interdisciplinare.
