Il centro di Gaeta è interessato da una forte concentrazione e stagionalità del flusso
turistico che implica una fruizione non sostenibile delle risorse e del
territorio. Si tratta di un turismo essenzialmente balneare con un bacino di
provenienza piuttosto limitato che stenta a promuovere processi di
riqualificazione e valorizzazione del tessuto insediativo storico. Eppure alla
peculiarità geomorfologica del sito e al ruolo strategico di Gaeta si deve un
patrimonio culturale e ambientale dal rilevante potenziale attrattivo. In tale
prospettiva, l’individuazione di strutture dal valore storico-artistico e di
punti d’interesse paesaggistico, l’identificazione di percorsi per una lettura
unitaria del tessuto insediativo
rispondono all’obiettivo di promuovere una gestione integrata del
patrimonio culturale e ambientale. E’ questa, infatti, una condizione
imprescindibile per la creazione di un indotto significativo anche nella
sezione medioevale, per la riduzione della stagionalità e l’ampliamento del
bacino di provenienza dei flussi turistici, per l’affermarsi del turismo
culturale. A tal scopo sono proposti tre
percorsi complementari che interessano il centro di Gaeta:
- il lungomare,
dallo skyline del paesaggio agli
attrattori culturali;
- oltre il lungomare, dalle rade del Golfo alle falesie sul Tirreno;
- le discese, dall’asse sommitale al lungomare.

concentration of tourism flows that involve unsustainable exploitation of environmental resources and progressive impoverishment of the
landscape. It is essentially a seaside tourism which is not
able to promote processes of re-development about the historic urban
center. In spite of this, Gaeta could diversify the tourism thanks to
its own geomorphological characteristics and a
significant cultural heritage, due to the strategic role that Gaeta held in the
past.In this perspective, the identification of
structures with a high historical
and artistic value and the planning of routes for a holistic
reading of the urban center have,
as their objective, the promotion of an integrated
management of cultural and environmental
heritage. The aim is the creation of significant
activities even in the medieval section, reduction of
seasonality and enlargement of tourist flows and
development of cultural tourism. Therefore, we proposed three
integrated routes regarding the medieval center of Gaeta:
- the seafront promenade, from the
coastal landscape to the cultural heritage;
- above the seafront, from the Bay of
Gaeta to the cliffs on the Tyrrhenian Sea;
- downhill roads from the promontory.
