Abstract
The symposium will be held in the auditorium of the Revoltella museum, which allows students and researchers from different departments to attend the event and contribute to the discussion. Furthermore, it best represents Trieste's international and modem soul.
The symposium will take place in the second week of October.
Throughout the morning of lectures, a clear picture of our ancestors' dietary habits will be presented. Five speakers will present: Vincent Femandez and José Braga, palaeontol-ogists from French universities.
Federico Bernardini, Enrico Greco, and Claudio Tuniz, archaeologist, chemist. and physi-cist respectively, from Italian universities.
The lectures will cover different modem methods used to infer the diet from teeth or food residuals. The techniques used range from X-rays to isotope analysis to proteomics, which are still subjects of research in physics and chemistry.
The target audience will be university students and researchers studying physics, chem-istry, palaeontology, archaeology, and agronomy science, as well as curators of local museums and members of cultural heritage associations. Interested citizens are also wel-come to join, even though the talks will be given in English.
Each lecturer will have a 40-minute time slot to present, with an additional 5 minutes for questions. Two coffee breaks are scheduled. After all lecturers have presented, there will be a 20-minute panel discussion involving all the speakers to answer further questions that might have arisen.
